Will has been coaching tennis full-time for the past nine years, having spent several years before that coaching alongside his own playing career. With a strong playing background and a real passion for helping players develop, he brings plenty of experience, energy, and enthusiasm to Medstead Tennis Club.
As a junior, Will trained alongside members of the Hampshire County team while also representing his local club. By just 15, he was the only teenager regularly playing in the adult team. A great reflection of both his talent and commitment to the sport.
During his playing career, he also worked as a hitting partner for a former New Zealand international player.
At Medstead, Will leads weekly coaching sessions, supports club tournaments, and is passionate about making tennis welcoming and accessible for everyone.
He has delivered Tennis for Kids courses to introduce younger players to the game, alongside girls-only coaching sessions supporting the LTA’s wider initiative to encourage more girls into tennis from a grassroots level.
Away from the court, Will enjoys pushing himself with new challenges and keeping fit in unconventional ways, including throwing tractor tyres around a field. His achievements already include running a marathon and swimming the English Channel, so we’re slightly nervous about what challenge he’ll take on next.
FUN FACT: When he’s not on court, Will is also a professional magician, performing at weddings and special events, so don’t be surprised if he has a few tricks up his sleeve.
"Running the marathon wins… just! But 66 hours building the giant Lego Millennium Falcon definitely tested my patience. The Lego Mario Kart only took 16 hours, so maybe I'm ready for an even bigger challenge."
"Swimming the Channel for sure. I love teaching the mini red groups as they are so fun and full of energy. The wind just makes ball collection even more exciting for them!"
Issie is a true Medstead Tennis Club success story, having started her own tennis journey here as a junior player. From competing in junior tournaments at the club to becoming our current Women’s Singles Champion, Issie knows firsthand how tennis at Medstead can grow with you.
Now coaching both junior and adult players, Issie brings energy, encouragement, and a fun, approachable style to her group sessions. She has also organised themed junior tournaments, helping younger players build confidence, develop their skills, and most importantly, enjoy their tennis.
As Medstead’s only female coach, Issie is a familiar and welcoming presence on court, particularly for girls and women who may feel more comfortable learning with a female coach.
Alongside tennis, Issie is currently studying Biochemistry at Exeter University, and will be joining the Army as an officer when she graduates, so it’s fair to say she enjoys a challenge.
When she’s not on court or studying, Issie loves horse riding, travelling, and pushing herself on the ski slopes.

"Focus less on winning every point and more on developing strong habits, consistency, and resilience under pressure — tennis isn't about winning every point, it's about winning the important ones."
"A wolf — intelligent and disciplined, but highly competitive!"
"I have achieved Grade 8 piano!"
Toby is another great example of Medstead Tennis Club’s junior pathway in action, having started his own tennis journey at the club as a junior player, before going on to become a previous Medstead Boys’ Singles Champion.
Having played at the club for many years, Toby knows Medstead inside and out and brings that familiarity, alongside a friendly and approachable coaching style, to both junior and adult sessions.
Now in his second year of coaching, Toby works with players of all ages and abilities, helping to build confidence, improve technique, and make tennis enjoyable at every stage of the game.
Away from the court, Toby is currently studying Physiotherapy, giving him a great understanding of movement, performance, and the importance of keeping active.
When he’s not coaching or studying, you’ll probably find him watching football and keeping up with the latest fixtures.
FUN FACT: Toby can solve a Rubik’s Cube at lightning speed!
"Footwork first. If you get into the right position early, everything else becomes much easier."
"Zlatan Ibrahimović — powerful, coordinated, and not short on confidence!"
"Don't skip the warm-up! Good preparation, solid technique, and building strength in the right areas all help keep you on court."
